Hydraulic Press Column Selection Tips

Aug.06.2026

What are the requirements for selecting a hydraulic press column?

Because small-tonnage hydraulic presses are generally used frequently, the damage to the column is relatively large. Therefore, the column is a very important parameter when selecting a hydraulic press. Small-tonnage hydraulic presses have high working frequency, low body rigidity, and fast operating speed. According to incomplete statistics, nearly a hundred hydraulic columns with a nominal pressure below 25,000T in my country have broken or been damaged. Therefore, the column should be carefully calculated during the purchase process. When calculating the column strength, pay attention to the following points:

1. Excessive stress from repeated deep drawing, also known as fatigue damage. For areas with repeated loads, this must be calculated. 1. Prolonged, high-intensity, and repeated stress will cause cracks;

2. Stress concentration areas are located in areas of large bending moments, mainly at the nuts connecting the lower crossbeam;

10

3. Large loads and centrifugal forces; column damage does not occur suddenly due to stress, but rather after hundreds of thousands of repeated stresses, leading to crack formation and propagation from the cracks;

4. Due to the lack of typical load scenarios, effective fatigue design calculations are difficult. A large part of the calculation of column load-bearing capacity relies on experience using hydraulic presses, so this must be explained in detail and clearly to technical personnel.
