Cleaning Nozzles on Pipe Bending Machines: Don't Wait Until They Clog

May.25.2026

Many pipe bending machines are equipped with cleaning nozzles used to blow away chips, spray coolant, or lubricant. These nozzles have small orifices and are prone to clogging. If clogged and not cleaned, you might experience scratches on the pipe surface, inadequate lubrication, and misalignment of the pipe angleyou wouldn't even suspect the nozzle is the problem.

So how often should you clean them? Here's some practical advice:

Take a quick look every day, and disassemble and clean it weekly.

Before turning on the machine each day, take ten seconds to glance at it: Is the spray even? Is it crooked, forked, or not spraying anything at all? If something seems off, disassemble it.

Under normal production conditions, disassemble it weekly and soak it in cleaning agent to brush it. If your workshop has a lot of dust, heavy oil stains, or if it's made of materials that easily produce fine shavings, such as stainless steel or titanium alloy, you'll need to clean it every three days.

Never poke the nozzle opening with a steel wire. I've seen people poke it with a needle, resulting in a broken nozzle and crooked spray patterns. Replacing the nozzle is much more expensive than cleaning it. Use compressed air to blow from the opposite direction, or soak it in a special cleaning agent and gently brush it with a soft brush.

When should you replace it?

If the spray is still uneven or the pressure is low after washing, then the nozzle is worn out. Replace it immediately; don't make do. A nozzle doesn't cost much, but sacrificing product quality is a real loss.

Another easier method is to add a filter before the nozzle. Impurities are trapped by the filter, and cleaning the filter is much easier than disassembling the nozzle.

The nozzle may be small, but a clogged nozzle can cause a lot of trouble. Cleaning it once a week and having the necessary tools ready is a simple task.
