What are the safety precautions for laser cutting machines?

Aug.13.2025

Laser cutting offers high precision and efficiency, but ignoring safety precautions can lead to serious and costly accidents. Understanding the necessary safety procedures is key to ensuring safe operation.

Key measures to ensure safe operation of laser cutting machines include wearing appropriate protective gear, regularly inspecting the equipment, strictly following the manufacturer's guidelines, maintaining a clean work area, and having a fire extinguisher available. Following these procedures can significantly reduce risk and ensure both personnel safety and equipment performance.

Only by mastering the key points of each safety tip can the safety of operators and equipment be effectively guaranteed.

Laser cutting machine safety precautions

1. Fire prevention measures

When laser cutting uses oxygen, smoking is strictly prohibited in the equipment area (especially near the oxygen cylinder) to prevent safety accidents and personal injury.

2. Exchange Table

During the operation of the automatic exchange platform, it is strictly forbidden for people to stay on it or in its area. In case of emergency, stop the exchange immediately or press the emergency stop button.

Safety protection and precautions

1. Pre-operation inspection

Grounding Check: Before any operation, ensure that all metal enclosures, including the main controller, laser power supply, switching power supply, motor driver, data cable, machine guide rails, motor, fan, and the main grounding point, are properly connected. Poor grounding can severely shorten the life of the laser source, cause high-voltage discharge to damage the control circuitry, and even result in fatal electric shock.

Environmental Safety: Before cutting, inspect the work area. Laser thermal processing poses a risk of fire and explosion. Flammable and explosive items must not be stored near the equipment.

Station Duty: Operators are strictly prohibited from leaving their posts without permission. If leaving the machine, they must first completely shut down the machine and disconnect the power supply. Leaving the machine unattended can easily lead to accidents.

Abnormal Handling: If any abnormality is detected during processing, the machine must be stopped immediately and the problem must be corrected promptly, or the equipment supplier's technical support must be contacted for resolution.

2. Be careful when operating

Laser Optical Path: When cutting or adjusting the optical path, be careful not to allow any part of your body to come into contact with the optical path to avoid injury.

Laser Energy: Laser power determines the laser energy. When the laser power exceeds the allowable value, the laser energy decreases. If the power exceeds the allowable value for a prolonged period, the laser source's lifespan will be significantly reduced. (For example, prolonged cutting of extremely high-reflectivity materials such as copper and aluminum)

Ambient Temperature: When the ambient temperature exceeds the maximum allowable value, the device will not be able to adequately dissipate heat, reducing device stability. When the ambient temperature falls below the minimum allowable value, the water inside the laser may freeze, shortening the lifespan of the laser source or even damaging it.

Cooling water temperature: When the cooling water temperature is greater than the maximum allowable value, the laser energy efficiency will drop rapidly; when the cooling water temperature is less than the minimum allowable value, the water in the laser will freeze, causing damage to the laser source.

Humidity: Excessive humidity can cause high-voltage discharge in the laser, endangering personal safety and damaging the laser power supply.

Power Supply: Fluctuations in the supply voltage can cause unstable operation of the device; excessively high voltage can cause permanent damage to the device's power system. To prevent damage to electrical appliances and circuits caused by excessive voltage, please install a power stabilizer.

3. Prohibit startup

Avoid operating the machine during severe weather conditions such as thunderstorms.

Untrained operators are prohibited from operating the machine alone.
